WORKING ABROAD: FRANCE

29. February 2020

Some say that France is the “Mecca” for snow sports instructors. Not only because of the never-ending high mountains, fresh powder and the fact that Candide Thovex is French :)
…you have probably also seen the pay rates by the international schools in France.

THE FRENCH SYSTEM
The French certification system is not a joke. The first thing the French skiers that want to become instructors go through is the GS race and if you don't have what it takes to be fast on a serious terrain with gates…you just don't have what it takes to be a French snowsports instructor. So when anybody from other countries comes to France and wants to teach snow sports – you'll have to prove that you can keep up.

TAKE THEM SERIOUSLY
You will have to play by their rules. There have been lots of attempts of teaching without the EURO test and/or the Carte PRO, but people have got themselves into a lot of trouble over this. You can read more about this on Planet Ski.

THE CARTE PROFESSIONNELLE
»Carte PRO« is your diploma recognition by the French Ministry of Sports and education for working in France. It is valid for 5 years and after that, you need to get a new one. It is not only the EU citizens who can get it, other certifications can also be recognized if they meet the French standards.

How do you apply for it?
The online application form is here: https://www.arquedi.sports.gouv.fr/. Register with your basic info and e-mail, once you get into the system click on the green button: Make a request.

*The system is still full of bugs, so make sure you have lots of time and patience. And copy all the info that you've found and used for the application into a document or folder on your computer. It often happens that you lose all the uploaded info with just one click…

The information you will need to upload is:

-   Detailed information about your diploma: start & end dates of your education, the hours included, percentage of theory and practical lessons, a scan of the original diploma and the training program. Together with your Euro security training).

-   Past experiences: previous employers, dates of start & end of your work with them, letters of proof – written in English is fine with them.

-   Scanned identificational document,

-   Motivational letter (why do you want to teach in France?),

-   Medical certification that proves you are capable of doing the job of a ski instructor,

-   Scan of certification of your basic knowledge of French language,

- Scan of your technical skills diploma (highest level from your organization),

-   Absence of conviction certificate (translated into French or English),

-   Scan of your EURO test results/ FIS points screenshot.

 The basic French language certificate
You need to prove that you speak basic French. It will be enough if you studied French at school, took a class with an official language school or an online language course. Scan the official document that you got by passing a test of basic French and attach it to your »request« as a .pdf document.

CTT (EURO test + EURO security)
EURO test
Attach your Euro test certification to the request or in case you have FIS points (under 100 for men and under 85 for women), you can take a screenshot of your FIS page profile where it shows your points and attach it to the »request«. You can read more about the CTT in the article: EURO test/ CTT.

EURO security
EURO security is the training for avalanche safety and off-piste skiing. It is either a separate training, a module or in some countries, it is a part of the highest level training.
